What do you mean by "Licensed and Insured"?

Not all trade professionals are required to have either a license or an insurance policy.

The state legal bare minimum to be in business, of which most of our residential workforce applies to:

- start your company at the Division of Corporations, Sunbiz, and

- choose the election to be exempt at the Division of workers compensation eliminating you from having to pay the premiums to carry an actual workers compensation insurance policy, known as Workers Compensation Exemption.

Sunbiz around $150 to get started, and $150 yearly thereafter.

Workers Compensation Exemption, $50 each person, every two years.

In Summary: $175 a year and a trade professional is in Business however, they are not licensed and are not insured if this is there business document selections.

*A licensed is obtained through a County, City, or State testing agency and a license number is issued after qualifications and a grade of Pass has been met.

Workers Compensations Exemption- Is not an Insurance Policy.

*This is not insurance coverage. Should the named person get hurt on the project they have only elected to be exempt from holding an actual workers compensation insurance policy and only applies to the named person on the exemption card.

If a company owner is WC exempt, all other persons working under them also need their own exemption card or proof of a policy.

A trade professional can be completely legal without either license or insurance. ie, sheet rockers, painters, handymen, carpenters, etc... those who perform services as smaller companies and do not need to pull permits for their work. However, these trade categories of companies may choose to have a worker's comp policy or general liability insurance policy based on their personal choice or possibly the number of people they employee exceeds the minimum to qualify for workers compensation exemption.
