A passion to build

Christi’s passion for construction started at a very early age. As a child, she would wait with anticipation for the Southern Living magazine to arrive and skip straight to the house plans for the month. Her eyes would scan every detail, soaking it all in.

As she grew older, she set her sights on being an architect, but as she was finishing college, her interest turned to construction. In college, she worked for the first digital cellular network company. As project manager, Christi was tasked with managing general contractors, the cost of contracts per tower type, and the upkeep of materials, which required building a database to manage cell tower materials. Her team built a database to track materials being used in the construction of the towers. She oversaw user design, data retention, and development of reports.

In 1999 she started her first construction company in Atlanta with a business associate. 

She loved the industry and had an opportunity to work at a larger level, increasing her knowledge of the insurance restoration industry, so she sold her stake in the construction company and went to work as a regional sales representative. There she worked with 21 franchise owners across three states to help increase their revenue through sales and marketing. 

In just over two years her team of owners doubled their gross sales and she was presented with the opportunity to have her own franchise. But a hurricane quickly changed her plans. 

Hurricane Ivan brought devastation to the Northwest Florida community and set the brakes on her dream of franchise ownership. Instead, she took a job in project management working for a commercial general construction company. 

Several years later, with more than 10 years of construction experience including marketing, estimating, sales, contracting, quality control, database development, finance, and project management under her belt, she became a licensed contractor in Florida.

In 2010, she launched Sailwind Construction with a vision to keep the company small and personally oversee all her projects. Christi found it critical to be onsite to manage the quality of installations, and project costs, and maintain good relations with clients. Most importantly, the small company’s design helped her have a flexible schedule so she could be present for her family.  

For 25 years she has seen and understood the steps talented, skilled people need to take to accomplish their dreams. Many are unable to keep up with basic, inexpensive, compliance documents. Over the years she has helped numerous people, one by one, get on track with compliance and that passion to help others led to the creation of Sunshine Verified™.

Offer a single source location to display a listing of construction industry professionals who are up to date on all of their state required compliance regulations per their trade category and for property owners to ensure work is performed by those who are qualified.
